Who Makes Peloton Bikes?
Peloton bikes are high-end exercise equipment. They’re made by Peloton Interactive Inc. It’s a US-based manufacturer of gym equipment.
Recently, due to their quality offerings, they’ve garnered much attention from the fitness community. Their primary products are stationary bicycles and also treadmills. The cool part is the stationary bikes are internet-connected.
This gives you some enticing features. With so many things going smart nowadays, it only makes sense your exercise gear does too. And, Peloton is forward-thinking about that.
Where Are Peloton Bikes Made?
Peloton’s very first factory was in New York City. They started back in 2012. So, it’s not that old. But given how feature-rich their products are, the brand had made a breakthrough in no time.
The company now produces its bikes in Taiwan too. They use third-party facilities in Taiwan along with its list of suppliers to fulfill the growing demand. But starting from 2023, Peloton will begin some of its production right here in the US.
To meet high demands, it acquired Precor. Precor is a large manufacturer of exercise equipment from North Carolina. The company faced long delays and an increase in shipping costs.
Thus, the move to work together with another top US-based manufacturer makes complete sense. One of the company’s founders, John Foley, said that their new Peloton Output Park would help them meet higher demands.
It’ll also offer them a good strategic advantage to produce at high capacity. Of course, being the premium brand it is, you can expect that quality will not be sacrificed despite the high output.
Suppliers of Peloton Bike
Peloton currently works with two suppliers for their products. A manufacturer is only as efficient as its suppliers. Thus, Rexon and Tonic have factories that run 24/7.
This allows them to make bikes to meet demands. Their bikes are supplied in different parts of the world as well. You can find genuine Peloton bikes in the US, Canada, Hawaii, UK, and Puerto Rico.
Of course, these bikes aren’t directly supplied in many parts of the world. For example, Australia is one of them. Customers in these places need to go through a couple of hoops.
For instance, firstly, you’ll need to buy the equipment where they’re supplied. So, your options are Canada, the US, UK, etc. Then you’ll need to import it to your country.
This will naturally add more costs. But for now, this is the only way to get your hands on these bikes for people who don’t live in a supplied country.
About The Manufacturer: History of Peloton
Every cool brand has an even cooler origin story. How it all started is something many brands hold near and dear. Their history is what makes them more credible. The same is true for Peloton Interactive Inc.
As we mentioned earlier, the brand was founded in 2012. The brand was first started by John and Jill foley. Two friends who loved spinning classes but were tired of always having to go outside.
You can see where this story is leading to, can’t you? The solution was to create a company to solve their problems. Initially, it was hard for the duo to get investment.
Most investors thought it wasn’t worthwhile investing. And that it was a waste of time and also money. An American company first invested, and then the rest is history.
All the usual startup lifecycles for funding began to pop up. By February 2012, Peloton raised an impressive $400,000 of seed funding.
In the last month of the same year, it got a whopping $3.5 million. The brand’s first-ever bike was sold on Kickstarter. It went for $1500. Later in 2014, its first stationary bikes saw the light of day.
Peloton still managed to get impressive investment figures into their ventures. During their series B funding, they managed to raise $10.5 million. Then $30 million and $75 million in series C and D funding, respectively.
By the end of 2017, the company was valued at $1.25 billion and also managed to raise another $325 million funding for their series E round. From there, it’s the usual business affair.
New models and new regions were announced. Tread+ treadmills were announced in CES 2018. To this day, Peloton tries to be innovative with its product line.
They recently released a game for their stationary bikes in July, 2021. Pretty cool stuff, if you ask us.
Making of Peloton Bike
A typical Peloton bike combines three things. You’ve the stationary bike itself, a computer system, and a physical studio. Since the bike is designed to stay stationary, serious engineering goes into it.
The computer system controls the resistance. This gives you accurate command over it. Computer controls are convenient since your trainer can see them as well. They can manage your resistance too.
Peloton also has physical studios. Some professional trainers can give you training. These training sessions are conducted online, of course. But the thing is you need to pay for them.
For many customers, having a personal trainer from Peloton is worth it. There’re monthly and yearly packages. These subscriptions are great for getting professional training to achieve your fitness goals.
Since the bikes have a large screen, online training classes like these are super fun. They’re a great way to stay in shape.
Design of Peloton Bike
Peloton bikes look very similar to traditional cycles. But there’re, of course, some differences. One of the major differences is instead of a chain; there’s a belt. This belt drive does not make any physical contact.
It uses a magnetic field to interact and move. This means one thing. You get much better durability. There isn’t much physical wear and tear. Traditional chain drives in bicycles will break down.
You need to oil it regularly. No such hassle is needed for Peloton bikes, though. It’s all smooth sailing here.
The brakes are super cool as well. It uses magnetic brakes. Instead of using a lever and clamping down, you just need to push a button. Can it get any easier than this?
The durability and the overall quality of these bikes are top-notch. High-quality and durable materials are used, like carbon steel. Not only is it environmentally friendly, but it can handle shocks.
Interacting with different controls and UI is taken care of by the large touchscreen. Any instructor video will also appear here. You can follow along with ease at your own pace.
Worried about all the electronics and sweat? Don’t; Peloton has you covered. The screen is sweat-resistant. So, you don’t need to worry about messing it up during intense sessions.
There is also an excellent Peloton app that you can use for extended functionality. But you need to buy a subscription for some features. Things like professional classes and training guides will require a subscription, as we mentioned before.
Are Peloton Bikes Worth Buying?
They absolutely are! Peloton bikes are every bit worth the money. There’re just so many cool features it offers you. Not only are the bikes truly durable, but they also don’t make much sound. These make them ideal for home use.
The smart features also mean you can connect your wireless headphones and jam out to some tunes during working out. You aren’t disconnected from the outside world either.
If you’re working from home, you can easily get a quick workout session done during office hours without missing any work or meetings. Now, that’s super cool.
Everything from the sheer quality, smart features, and ease of use makes these bikes a worthwhile investment. And we use the word ‘investment’ on purpose.
These bikes will help you get in better shape and make you healthier. That’s an investment in every sense of the word in our books.
Who makes peloton bikes and where are they made? Peloton Interactive Inc makes the bikes basically, and they were made in the USA at the very first, but now, they’re engineered in Taiwan as well.
Peloton bikes are cool, feature-rich, and durable. With the growing popularity of their products, the brand is trying to increase production. This should make getting your hands on one easier.
